WebAnswers is a site in which you answer questions other users ask, and earn money from the ads on the questions you answer. In a sense it is similar to Yahoo Answers, only you get paid. How much you make is controlled by a couple different factors. First is how many questions you answer. The more you answer, the more pages you have the possibility of earning from. However another major factor in how much you earn is your quality score. Your quality score is based on how long and thorough your answers are, how many spelling and grammar mistakes you make, and whether your answers are correct. People who write long, full, and informative answers will have a higher quality score than someone who answers questions with one word answers or very short answers in general.
Having a higher quality score matters because as long as a question stays open, you share your income with everyone else who has answered the question and the share of money you make is more the higher your quality score is.
The user who asks the question can also award a best answer. After the question has been awarded, only the person who got the awarded answer will make royalties on that page. So, if your answer was awarded as the best, then you make all of the ad earnings from that page (minus WebAnswers 40%), but if someone else is awarded best answer, then you will no longer earn from that page.
You can also earn money off of questions you ask, though it is far less than what you earn from questions you answer. It also affected your quality score badly if the amount of questions you ask is over 20% of how many questions you answer.
Personally I earn the most off of the questions I answer that remain unawarded. They seem to get more traffic and there are more questions I answer that stay unawarded as opposed to the number of questions awarded to me.
In order to get paid by answering questions on WebAnswers, you have to answer a minimum of 50 questions before WebAnswers will invite you to link your account to your Google Adsense account. After you link your accounts, you will start earning, and the minimum payout on Adsense is $100.
My Recommendation?
Personally I have had some good success earning on WebAnswers. I really regret that I stopped being active on this site after I first joined and only recently I started up again and have instantly seen results for staying active. It makes me wonder how much I would be earning if I had stuck with it from the beginning.
Anyway, it takes a little while to build up your earning base. You will start by earning a few cents a day, but the more you answer and if you stay active, your earnings will start to grow since your quality score will improve with your activity and the number of questions you earn off of will grow. It doesn't take long before you are able to start earning a minimum of $3.33 (which equals to about $100 a month in order to be paid every month). If you keep up, you can easily even earn more than $100 a month. I have seen success of a few hundred, all of the way up to $700 one month on WebAnswers.
While it wont make you rich, it can definitely provide you with a little extra cash for little effort, and the longer you stay active, the more you can potentially earn.
